Gibraltar FA fires back at Roy Keane’s ITV jab with cheeky invitation
The Gibraltar Football Association (GFA) has publicly rebuffed former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland star Roy Keane after he likened Croatia’s 7‑0 defeat to England to a ‘Gibraltar‑like’ performance during an ITV Studio appearance, even extending a tongue‑in‑cheek invitation for Keane to visit the nation.
GFA’s cheeky reply on X
The GFA’s official X account quote‑tweeted the ITV Sport clip, writing “Do me a favour, Roy. If you’re going to mention Gibraltar, come visit us first. We’ll even let you stay the whole camp (wink).” The post, published at 22:17 on 3 Oct 2026, displayed two images and a view count beside the message. It also referenced the infamous Saipan incident involving the former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland legend. The comment was posted by Stephen Killen, a Senior Sports Content Creator.
England’s 7‑0 triumph and Keane’s reaction
Keane, 55, was analysing the game from Thomas Tuchel’s side in the ITV Studio alongside Ian Wright. He watched the Three Lions dismantle Croatia, with Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka each scoring a brace. Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and Morgan Rogers also featured as England recovered from their Nations League loss to Spain.
While lauding Bellingham, Keane said, “The way he’s progressing as a player, there’s so much to come… outstanding in every aspect, he could become one of the greatest of all time.” He added that Bellingham’s leadership and hunger out of possession lift the whole team.
Harry Kane matches Shilton's record and scores twice for England
The Gibraltar Football Association currently sit in Nations League Group D with two points from draws against Malta and Andorra. They travel to Liechtenstein on Monday before meeting Andorra in the next mini‑tournament round.
The Republic of Ireland last faced Gibraltar in 2023, winning 3‑0. That fixture was mentioned in the GFA’s reply as a reminder of past results.
It remains unclear whether Keane will accept the GFA’s invitation. The exchange has added a light‑hearted footnote to England’s dominant performance.
