Getafe to sign Jadon Sancho after Carvajal deal
Getafe is planning to sign the 26‑year‑old English international Jadon Sancho, with the club management aiming for a contract model similar to the recently concluded Carvajal deal. The former BVB star has been without a club since the summer, after his exit from Manchester United did not lead to a new contract.
Why Getafe is targeting Sancho
Sancho, a 23‑time English international, is considered a player with high market value despite his injury spell; in March 2020 his market value was €130 million. Getafe, a Madrid suburb club, sits after eight matchdays in 14th place with eight points and an estimated total market value of just under €99 million.
Carvajal model as a template
The club recently signed the also club‑less right‑back Dani Carvajal from Real Madrid until the end of the season. According to journalist Pablo Pinto, both coach José Bordalás and the club leadership are interested in a similar model for Sancho. Mundo Deportivo reports that they are “looking for ways to complete this complex deal”.
Financial framework
The Carvajal deal already wavered because of La Liga’s financial regulations, and it remains unclear whether Getafe can afford another lavish salary. Spanish sources say Sancho is demanding between €4 million and €5 million per year. One possible route would be to remove the long‑injured Juanmi Jiménez from the payroll to free up space.
A move to the Spanish La Liga would give Sancho the chance to be back in the spotlight, although Getafe tends to maintain a “grey‑mouse image”. The club finished the previous season in seventh place, which was enough for Conference‑League qualification.
Whether Sancho signs the contract depends heavily on his own willingness; even with his desire, the project would still be up in the air. If it works out, it could finally end the long‑standing dream of a return to Dortmund, as a second comeback to the BVB is already considered off the table.
