Getafe's failed Carvajal signing leaves veteran defender idle
Dani Carvajal, the 34‑year‑old former Real Madrid left‑back, saw his prospective move to Getafe collapse at the last minute, leaving the ex‑captain of the Spanish national team without a club for another period.
Negotiations break down
Ángel Torres, president of Getafe, confirmed the deal fell apart, stating “Se ha roto todo, no hay nada”. The club had been close to securing Carvajal as defensive cover, but the negotiations did not reach a conclusion.
The Spanish defender had been linked with a return to LaLiga after leaving Real Madrid in May, and his departure was widely reported on the Futbol portal and even highlighted as a preferred source on Google.

Consequences for both parties
Carvajal, who left the Bernabéu in June, remains inactive after a serious knee injury suffered in 2025 and a career that includes 27 titles. With no contract in place, he must now consider his options in the coming months.
Getafe, coached by José Bordalás, will rely on Andrés García and Sebastián Boselli as their primary right‑back options for the upcoming match against Barcelona on 10 October at the Spotify Camp Nou, part of LaLiga’s eighth round.
