Getafe player taunts Lamine Yamal with Morocco jab during Barça win

Lamine Yamal, the 19‑year‑old Barcelona forward, was confronted by a Getafe player who shouted a provocative line about the Morocco national team while the Catalans were cruising to a 3‑0 win in La Liga on Saturday.

Provocation captured on television

The incident was broadcast by the Spanish channel Movistar in its programme El Dia Despues. The clip shows Yamal disputing a decision by referee Jesús Gil Manzano after a foul on Anthony Gordon involving Getafe goalkeeper David Soria.

Yamal rushes toward the playmaker and repeats, “Mais il tire à la fin, il tire à la fin!” as he argues that his teammate should have been awarded a free kick.

Getafe player’s taunt

Abdel Abqar, a Moroccan international defender for Getafe, then steps forward and repeatedly shouts, “Lamine, Lamine, toi, tu veux jouer pour le Maroc. Lamine, tu le veux.” The chant is aimed at unsettling the young Spaniard.

Yamal pushes the player away with his arm and returns to his position, resuming play despite the referee’s strictness.

Yamal’s national allegiance

Born in Spain to a Moroccan father, Mounir Nasraoui, and an Equatorial‑Guinean mother, Sheila Elbana, Yamal was eligible for three national teams. He chose Spain, debuting for the senior side in 2023 at 16 years, one month and 26 days old.

He has already collected the 2026 World Cup and Euro 2024 trophies with Spain, while Morocco attempted to persuade him during his youth years.

Context from Moroccan football development

Nasser Larguet, former architect of Moroccan football development, told RMC Sport that Yamal was “already in the pipes of the Spanish selection when you knock on his door, but he is already with the A team.” He estimated an 80 percent chance that Yamal would remain with Spain.

The provocation therefore highlights the ongoing competition for dual‑nationality talents between Spain and Morocco.
