Getafe in advanced talks to sign free‑agent Dani Carvajal
Getafe are close to completing the signing of 34‑year‑old right‑back Dani Carvajal, who has been a free agent since leaving Real Madrid. The Andalusian club has confirmed that negotiations are progressing well and that a medical examination is already being arranged, with the final contract still to be agreed.
Carvajal, a 52‑cap Spanish international, spent thirteen seasons at Real Madrid, amassing 451 appearances and collecting a trophy cabinet that includes six Champions League titles, four La Liga crowns and a European Championship with Spain. He also enjoyed a loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen in 2012, adding Bundesliga experience to his résumé.
If the deal is sealed, Getafe will acquire a player with a rare blend of experience and winning mentality, bolstering a squad currently sitting 11th in La Liga. The club faces Ajax in the Europa League on 17 December, though Carvajal would be ineligible for the group‑stage registration deadline, he could still feature in the domestic campaign.
Financial details have not been disclosed, but both parties acknowledge that a mutually satisfactory agreement is required before the contract can be signed. The club’s hierarchy says the terms will reflect Carvajal’s pedigree while fitting within Getafe’s wage structure.

Carvajal expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of joining the club from the capital. "I have always respected Getafe’s fighting spirit," he said. "If the medical goes well and the contract is right, I am ready to give everything for the fans and help the team achieve its goals."

Spanish football analyst Javier García added that Carvajal’s arrival could also serve as a mentorship opportunity for younger full‑backs. "Having a player who has won the Champions League six times in the dressing room is priceless," García noted. "He can teach the next generation what it takes to compete at the top.
The transfer is expected to be finalized before the winter window closes on 31 January, pending the medical and contractual agreement.
