Germany slips further in the FIFA ranking under Jürgen Klopp

National team coach Jürgen Klopp, 59 years old, had to review the official FIFA‑world ranking of his side again after four internationals in charge. The German national team has slipped from rank 12 to rank 13, a clear sign of the current lack of form.

Drop in the FIFA‑Ranking

The current position in the FIFA‑ranking highlights the difficult phase of German football, reflected in the numbers. Since dropping from rank 12, which the team held after the failed World Cup, it has not made any ground since.

A neighboring country, Switzerland, has overtaken the German side and thereby taken a position. Switzerland is now in place 12, while Germany falls back to place 13.

In the European Nations League the German squad managed only one win in four matches. This meagre success contributes to the poor placement.

Since July 2018, when Germany was still top of the world ranking list, the team has never finished higher than place 9; before the tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada it was even at place 10.

World champions Spain have further extended their lead at the top of the table, followed by Argentina and France in places 2 and 3. The top positions therefore remain largely unchanged.

Portugal is the big winner of the new ranking: despite the ongoing disputes over superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, the team climbed from rank 7 to rank 5, directly behind World Cup semi‑finalist England.
