German leagues set ticket sales record as Bundesliga outpaces Europe
Today at 17:07 the Bundesliga unveiled its annual attendance report, revealing a historic 21,404,258 tickets sold across the 36 clubs in Germany’s top two leagues. The data marks the first time the combined ticket sales have reached such a level.
All 36 clubs from the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga contributed to the record, selling more tickets than ever before. The popularity of both divisions remains strong despite a rise in average ticket prices at the top level.
On average, 41,562 tickets were sold per Bundesliga match, comfortably ahead of La Liga’s 30,945 and Serie A’s 30,084. These figures underline the German competition’s superior draw.
When the two German leagues are combined, the average attendance per game stands at 34,974 tickets. By contrast, the Premier League’s latest numbers have not yet been released.
In total, the two highest German divisions moved 21,404,258 tickets through the turnstiles, establishing a new benchmark. This total surpasses previous records for the country’s professional football.
The surge is partly linked to the promotion of Hamburger SV and 1. FC Köln for the 2024/25 season, both offering larger stadium capacities than relegated VfL Bochum and Holstein Kiel. Consequently, Bundesliga ticket sales rose by 9.1 percent.
The return of Schalke 04 to the top flight is expected to drive further attendance growth in the coming season.
