German club Bayern dismiss Haaland rumours after secret Guardiola meeting
Bayern Munich held a secret meeting with former manager Pep Guardiola, but there is no truth to transfer links with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, German football journalist Christian Falk wrote in his latest CF Bayern Insider column.
Secret meeting with Guardiola
The gathering took place in the last week and was attended by Bayern legends Karl‑Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß alongside Pep Guardiola. Falk stresses that the meeting was discreet because of the sensitive nature of the ongoing Manchester City saga.
Falk uses the column to address the flood of speculation surrounding the Man City situation, noting that Bayern are naturally monitoring developments that could affect the Premier League and Europe.
Why Haaland is off the table
Bayern’s current priority is securing a new contract for their own top striker Harry Kane, with talks progressing well ahead of the international break. Falk explains that a two‑year extension, possibly with a third‑year option, would give Bayern a ready‑made solution up front.
Kane’s stay at Bayern forces Barcelona to chase Haaland
He adds that Haaland’s wages, reported at about €35 million a year, are far beyond Bayern’s usual salary structure. Even a free transfer would still require a substantial signing‑on fee, making the Norwegian international financially unrealistic for the club.
While Bayern admire Haaland, Falk argues there is no room for him either on the pitch or on the wage bill while Kane remains their focal point.
The column also highlights the broader impact of the Manchester City saga, with clubs such as Liverpool watching closely after missing out on titles they attribute to City’s dominance.
Falk concludes that, from a German perspective, the secret meeting underscores Bayern’s awareness of the situation but confirms there is no decision or interest in pursuing Haaland at this stage.
