Genk secure young Ghana striker after Al‑Qadsiah exit

Belgian Jupiler Pro League club Genk have secured Ghanaian centre‑forward Jerry Afriyie from Saudi Arabian side Al‑Qadsiah, with the 19‑year‑old arriving in Belgium on 18 August 2026 and signing a contract that runs until 30 June 2031. The move follows a season spent away on loan and provides Genk with a young striker to bolster their attack.

Long‑term contract and loan history

Afriyie's deal runs to 30 June 2031, tying the 19‑year‑old to Genk for five years. He was born in Sunyani, Ghana, stands 1.80 m tall and favours his right foot.

Before joining Genk, Afriyie spent the previous season away from Al‑Qadsiah, joining Belgian side La Louviere on loan on 24 August 2025 before returning to his Saudi club at the end of June 2026.

His spell in Belgium followed a short‑term loan with Spanish club CD Lugo, where he featured in the second half of the 2024‑25 season after arriving on 25 January 2025 from Al‑Qadsiah; the loan concluded on 30 June.

Al‑Qadsiah originally secured Afriyie from Thoughts FC on 23 January 2025, launching a series of moves that saw him experience football in Spain and Belgium.

Afriyie's record for the 2026‑27 season shows no appearances in either the Saudi Pro League or the Kings Cup before his switch to Genk.

The transfer moves him from the Saudi Pro League to Belgium’s top flight, where he will continue his career as a centre‑forward, and Genk have now locked in his services through June 2031.
