Genk break record with €10.5m bid for Nigerian striker

At Genk’s training complex, the buzz centers on a looming €10.5 million deal that would see KRC Genk sign 23‑year‑old Nigerian forward Rafiu Durosinmi, a move that promises to shatter the club’s transfer record. The striker, who spent last season in Italy, is poised to join the Limburgers as they chase European qualification.

The Limburgers have been monitoring the Nigeriaanse striker for months and now appear ready to push the deal through. According to club insiders, they are prepared to lay down an enormous sum that will break the existing record. For Genk, the investment signals a clear intent to reinforce their attacking options.

Volgens Calciopisa.it, Genk and Pisa have reached an agreement on a definitive transfer. The fee is set at €10.5 million, exclusive of bonuses, and Pisa will retain a 10 % sell‑on clause. Voor Genk this represents a substantial financial outlay.

The €10.5 million fee eclipses the previous club record of €7 million paid in 2019 for Theo Bongondan from Zulte Waregem. That amount still stands as the most expensive incoming transfer before this deal.

Durosinmi arrived at Pisa earlier this year for €9 million from Viktoria Plzen, becoming the most expensive signing in Pisa’s history. The move also made him the club’s costliest outgoing player should he depart now.

During his short spell in Italy, the Nigeriaan featured in 12 matches, scoring once and providing one assist. Pisa could not avoid relegation to Serie B despite his contributions.

He was omitted from the squad for the Sunday friendly against Pavia and left the training camp in Morgex to finalise his transfer. This development he will not feature for Pisa again.

The 23‑year‑old attacker stands 1.92 m tall and fits the profile of the powerful forwards that have brought the Limburgers success in recent seasons. His physical attributes are expected to complement Genk’s attacking style.

Financially, the deal is a clear risk for the Belgian side, but the club believes Durosinmi’s potential justifies the outlay. Success in Belgium could see him rediscover the form that made him a standout in the Czech league.
