Genk bet on five‑year gamble to add pace and versatility

KRC Genk have secured the signing of 19‑year‑old Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie from Al‑Qadsiah on a five‑year contract, hoping his pace and versatility will broaden their attacking options and fill a need for dynamism after recent departures.

Genk Head of Football Dimitri de Conde praised Afriyie’s natural ability, noting his pace, explosiveness, runs in behind and one‑on‑one threat. He added that the 19‑year‑old is still at an early stage and will need the right environment to progress.

Five‑year contract and loan record

The Ghanaian forward has signed a five‑year contract with the Belgian side, with the club convinced there is significant room for improvement. Afriyie arrives after a loan spell at La Louvire, where he recorded five goals and one assist last season. His versatility allows him to operate on either wing, through the centre or behind the striker, giving Genk several attacking options.

Genk believe the youngster will be an excellent addition now and for the future, and will provide the dynamism the squad requires. Afriyie will now look to build on his progress in Belgium as he begins his long‑term project with the club.
