Gayà celebrates APAVCF honour while Valencia silence renewal talks
Left‑back José Luis Gayà collected the APAVCF award for his Valencia CF service last night, but the celebration was shadowed by the fact that his contract expires on 30 June 2027 and the club has yet to start renewal talks, amid growing speculation about his future.
Award and contract deadline
The Association of Small Shareholders of Valencia CF (APAVCF) presented the prize to the club captain in recognition of his long‑term trajectory. Gayà confirmed that, despite the honour, "no conversation" has taken place regarding an extension. He added, "Claro que me gustaría" when asked about staying beyond the 30 June 2027 deadline.
Sobre la renovación, the left‑back said the silence stems from the club’s current priorities. Director deportivo Braulio Vázquez has asked everyone to focus on climbing out of the relegation zone, putting classification ahead of any desk negotiations. Gayà respects that order and has not forced the debate publicly.
Future under new coach
Javier Aguirre, appointed during the winter break, impressed Gayà with his extensive LaLiga experience. The Mexican coach’s first match arrives on 11 October against Racing, a fixture Gayà described as "special" and one he is eager to face.
Para Gayà, the pre‑season incident – a red card against Newcastle in the Trofeu Taronja – was a learning curve. He admitted the season has had "altibajos", but believes the tougher moments are now behind him and better days are ahead.
The Copa del Rey draw paired Valencia with UE Tavernes de la Valldigna, a club close to his hometown. "My brother told me this morning – it will be a special encounter near home," he said, noting the local support.
Looking forward, Gayà feels the team is in a good position after a solid start and trusts the season will improve. While the renewal remains in the drawer, his focus stays on helping Valencia rise out of the low‑table and secure a brighter future.
