Gavi rules out Newcastle and Tottenham, clearing the way for PSG
Gavi, the 22‑year‑old academy graduate of Barcelona, has seen his role reduced under Xavi Flick and now sees Paris Saint‑Germain as an escape route. He has only featured in three of the eight matches of the season, starting just one, while Newcastle and Tottenham are among the clubs tracking him.
Competition in Barça's midfield
The abundance of options in the Barça locker room has left Gavi in a precarious position. The arrival of Rodri has raised the competitive bar even further, adding him to De Jong, Pedri, Bernal, Fermín López and Dani Olmo in the midfield equation. This season, the midfielder has featured in three of eight games and has only started once. Flick values his intensity, competitive character and versatility to operate as a deep‑lying midfielder, interior, attacking midfielder or in more advanced areas.
Luis Enrique's assessment. Luis Enrique holds a special regard for Gavi, whom he values for his commitment and tactical ability. The coach, who gave him his debut with the under‑17 national team, still believes the player can regain his importance in the squad. The club, under Xavi Flick's direction, continues to see Gavi as a key piece. Currently, Enrique has him on his radar for future plans.
Premier interest
In the Premier League, Newcastle, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton have been linked with the midfielder. Manchester United showed interest during the summer and even presented an offer close to €40 million, a proposal that Barcelona rejected. Nevertheless, Gavi has stated that the English league is not among his preferences at this time.

PSG as a European alternative. Paris Saint‑Germain emerges as a different option, although it remains a natural rival of Barcelona in continental competitions. Gavi's profile fits the Parisian club's philosophy, which seeks young players with potential in the Parc des Princes. A good relationship with Luis Enrique, who met him in the under‑17 national team, could facilitate a possible transfer.
Career and achievements. Gavi broke into the first team at 17 and, by the end of the 2025/26 season, had amassed 163 official matches and 10 goals. During that period he won three La Liga titles, three Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey. His training at La Masia gave him the technical foundation that now stands out. His career has also been marked by two serious knee injuries, from which he has always returned. He won the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy in 2022, and reached 100 league appearances at just 20 years old.
Outlook. With competition in midfield becoming increasingly fierce, the prospect of a departure gains momentum. While awaiting an opportunity alongside Rodri, Gavi aims to regain the importance he once had at Barcelona and feel a protagonist again.
