Gattuso warns Bologna-Lazio as Tedesco's debut looms

The Serie A clash between Bologna and Lazio at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara on March 16, 2025 in ITALY sees Mattia Zaccagni of SS Lazio contesting the ball with Sam Beukema of Bologna, and is already being billed as a test for Gattuso, who views it as a crucial early‑season exam.

The fixture is one of two postponed matches of the Serie A opening day, the other being Roma-Fiorentina at the Olimpico. The match, scheduled for march 16, follows a pre‑season that left both sides with mixed impressions.

High odds and multigoal expectations

Betting markets list a multigoal 2‑4 line at 1.58 on Pokerstars, 1.57 on Snai, 1.56 on Stake and 1.50 on Admiralbet for the BOLOGNA-LAZIO encounter. The multigoal 2‑4 option appears on the board at 2‑41.58, indicating bookmakers anticipate a high‑scoring affair.

Gattuso recalls his first official encounter with Lazio ended poorly, citing a shock Coppa Italia defeat to Mantova at the Olimpico that eliminated the biancocelesti. He noted a week‑old side that lagged tactically and physically, lacking a quality centre‑forward and showing defensive sluggishness.

Bologna operates with a zero‑balance transfer policy, making player recruitment difficult. Croatian defender Sutalo has arrived, and Gattuso may have the courage to start him instead of Doekhi, who appeared out of condition in the Coppa Italia. If Tedesco makes his debut on the Bologna bench, the pressure on Gattuso intensifies.

Squad tweaks and transfer constraints

In attack, Bologna has turned to Dovbyk and Piccoli after selling Argentine Castro, while Pinamonti is a target only if Lotito can generate funds through a sale. Rapid wingers Orsolini, Cambiaghi and Rowe remain on the radar of Sarri and Atalanta.

Lazio entered pre‑season with a heavy 1‑4 loss to Pisa, raising concerns ahead of the clash. The club seeks revenge after last season’s victory at the Dall'Ara in the league and a penalty‑shootout win over the same opponents in the Coppa Italia.

Betting operators also list a draw (X) at 2.05 on Bwin, Starcasinò and William Hill, and at 2.00 on Eurobet, offering a safe‑bet alternative for the balanced encounter.
