Gasperini's abnormal Malen shines at Roma after a phenomenal start
Gian Piero Gasperini has left no words unsaid for Donyell Malen: the Dutch striker has delivered a brilliant start to the season and the AS Roma coach calls his numbers “abnormal”. The coach praised the young forward during a press conference ahead of the upcoming match against Torino, emphasizing Malen’s impact on the Italian Serie A.
Press conference ahead of Torino
“If you look at Donyell’s numbers, they are abnormal,” Gasperini said at the press conference that took place in the run‑up to the clash with Torino. He spoke about the statistics that Malen has posted so far and made it clear that the club is impressed by the Dutch goal scorer.
Statistics that go down in history
This season, Malen has already scored five times in three league matches, a return that the coach labelled “Crazy”. Last season he scored fourteen times in eighteen fixtures in the Italian top flight, building a solid reputation.
Gasperini continued: “It is special what this player has already done for us. And that in an enormously consistent way. We have already played many matches with him, the numbers tell the story. They are making the history books. But it also says something about his character and qualities.” The coach emphasized that Malen’s performances are not only quantitative, but also qualitative of great value to the club.
Michael Fabbri to referee Serie A showdown as Roma chase joint lead
Although the coach is overjoyed, he remains honest about his expectations. “It is clear that we brought in an important player with him, but he is even better than expected,” Gasperini concluded, highlighting the striker’s unexpected explosion in Italy.
The Dutch forward has been active in Italy since the previous winter season and has scored twenty times for Roma since then. This productivity confirms Malen’s growing role within the squad and underscores his importance in the Serie A.
Roma will travel to Torino in the Serie A on Monday, a match in which Gasperini hopes Malen will continue his abnormal form and further aid the team in the competition.
