Füllkrug's return to Dortmund sparks the clash with Werder

On Friday evening the German striker Niclas Füllkrug will return to the Signal Iduna Park, ready to face Borussia Dortmund for the first time as an opponent. After a season spent with the white‑and‑black side, the centre‑forward returns to confront the rivals in front of more than eighty thousand spectators.

The most important step at BVB

For Niclas Füllkrug the move to Borussia Dortmund has been described as “the most important step of my career”. Before joining Werder Bremen, the striker had worn the shirts of West Ham and Milan, experiences that have enriched his journey.

Interviewed by the official website of the green‑and‑white club, Füllkrug said: “I believe the context, the team and the energy you feel have made the difference. I chose the more emotional path by returning here to Werder, also taking on a certain risk.”

The first goals with Werder

In the first four league matches the centre‑forward has already found the net three times, adding another goal in the Cup. Despite the numbers, Füllkrug insists that his worth is not measured solely by scoring.

“Against Augsburg, for example, I focused more on the play and how involved I was in the build‑up than on the goal,” the striker explained.

“I’m happy to return to the Signal Iduna Park and the Gelbe Wand. I’ll see some teammates and people I have worked with; it will be a great match,” he added, emphasizing that they are there to “play football and take points, not to have friendly meetings.”

The Dortmund crowd exceeds eighty thousand spectators and possesses an incredible force. Füllkrug admitted that Werder can make life difficult for BVB, keeping them away from the goal and, if they do not create chances, a bit of nervousness can arise in the stands.

Füllkrug’s return adds a new chapter to the rivalry between the two clubs, with the striker determined to turn memories into points for Werder.
