Full backroom built: Martens and Zenden join Van Bommel
In a modest conference room at the Belgian Football Federation, officials unveiled a new coaching structure, naming 49‑year‑old Mark van Bommel as head coach and announcing former internationals Maarten Martens, 42, and Boudewijn Zenden, 49, as his assistants for Belgium.
The federation has outlined a complete staff team around Mark van Bommel following his appointment as head coach of the Red Lions of Belgium.
It stressed that a full technical staff is essential for the Red Lions alongside head coach Mark van Bommel.
Former Belgian international Maarten Martens, aged 42, has been appointed as one of the assistants, fulfilling the need for an experienced former player in Van Bommel's backroom.
Former Dutch midfielder Boudewijn Zenden, aged 49, will also serve as an assistant to Van Bommel, completing the assistant collection announced by the federation.
With Martens and Zenden added, the Red Lions now have a complete staff team supporting Mark van Bommel.
