Fulham in advanced talks with Arbeloa for three-year head coach deal
Fulham are in advanced talks with Alvaro Arbeloa to appoint him as their new head coach on a three-year contract. The Premier League club have been searching for a successor to Marco Silva after his departure earlier this month.
Negotiations between Fulham and Arbeloa have covered coaching staff appointments, squad planning and preparations for the upcoming season. Arbeloa left Real Madrid at the end of the 2025-26 campaign following a four-month spell in charge of the Spanish giants.
Arbeloa was promoted to Real Madrid’s first team in January 2026 after Xabi Alonso’s departure and guided the club past Benfica and Manchester City in the Champions League knockout rounds. His tenure ended with a quarter-final defeat to Bayern Munich.
Real Madrid finished second in La Liga behind Barcelona during Arbeloa’s brief management and were eliminated from the Copa del Rey by a second-tier opponent. His mixed results came amid a difficult dressing-room environment and squad instability prior to his arrival.
Before taking charge of Real Madrid, Arbeloa had built a strong reputation as a coach within the club’s academy structure. A move to Fulham would mark his first long-term senior managerial project outside Spain.
Fulham narrowly missed out on European qualification last season under Silva, who led the club to promotion and five years of Premier League stability. The west London side have sought a successor capable of building on that foundation.
Arbeloa’s experience as both a player and coach at the highest level has impressed Fulham’s decision-makers during the interview process. If the deal is completed, he will begin his first full season in management in the Premier League.
