Fulham chase Bundesliga midfielder Larsson as medical looms
Fulham are on the verge of securing 22‑year‑old Swedish midfielder Hugo Larsson from Eintracht Frankfurt, with a reported fee of around £21.5m. The Swede is already in London and will undergo a medical on Tuesday, as the Cottagers race to meet the 11pm deadline.
Fee, contract and previous deal
The agreement is understood to be £21.5m (€25m, $29m), matching the €9m Frankfurt paid for Larsson three years ago. He signed for the German side in 2023 from Malmö FF and is contracted there until 2029, giving Fulham a long‑term asset.
Arbeloa’s recruitment drive
New head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, appointed in July after Marco Silva departed for Benfica, has already added Shea Charles, Gonzalo García and César Palacios from Real Madrid. Larsson would provide another box‑to‑box option, adding youth and running power to the midfield.
Standing 6ft 2in, the Swede is described as an athletic box‑to‑box midfielder who covers ground, arrives in the penalty area at the right moments and offers energy without the ball. He is not a technical playmaker but brings stamina, physical presence and a useful goal threat.
Larsson has made more than 80 Bundesliga appearances and earned 12 caps for Sweden. His profile fits Arbeloa’s plan to inject more intensity into Fulham’s engine room.
Crystal Palace and several other Premier League clubs were linked with the Swede, but the Cottagers moved quickly to finalise the deal. Meanwhile, Fulham remain in a race to sign Andrei Ratui, with Everton also eyeing Kenny Tete.
Provided the medical goes well, Larsson is expected to sign later today, becoming one of the most notable late‑window arrivals in west London. The move is hailed as a real coup for the Cottagers and a sign of ambition at Craven Cottage.
