Frosinone add Terzic, Schmid and Grillitsch ahead of Serie A return
Frosinone have completed three signings as they prepare for Serie A, securing RB Salzburg full-back Aleksa Terzic, Werder Bremen midfielder Romano Schmid and free-agent Florian Grillitsch. The club, known as the Canarini, finished second in Serie B behind Venezia to earn automatic promotion.
Serbia international left-back Terzic, who turns 27 later this month, returns to Serie A after a spell at Fiorentina and a 2023 move to Salzburg. Sky Sport Italia first reported the deal, and Fabrizio Romano later confirmed it, setting the medical for Thursday, August 13.
Werder Bremen have agreed to an €8 million transfer for Austrian midfielder Schmid. The 2020-arriving Austria international has logged 181 appearances and 17 goals for Bremen. Free-agent Grillitsch joined Frosinone after his contract with Braga expired. The club announced that personal terms had been agreed, adding depth to the midfield.
The newly-promoted Canarini earned promotion by finishing second in Serie B behind title-winners Venezia. Coach Massimiliano Alvini now has a reinforced squad as the club looks beyond Italian shores following its takeover by an American company that also owns Ipswich Town.
Fans of Frosinone Calcio were on hand for the Serie A TIM match against US Salernitana at Stadio Benito Stirpe on April 26, 2024. The scene was captured by Giuseppe Bellini/Getty Images, illustrating the growing excitement around the club’s new arrivals.
Terzic brings defensive solidity from Salzburg, where he established himself as a reliable full-back. Schmid arrives with Bundesliga experience and a proven goal threat from midfield. Grillitsch, arriving on a free transfer, offers technical midfield control and leadership.
Alvini’s project now hinges on blending these three profiles into a cohesive unit. The Canarini’s summer activity reflects a clear ambition to compete in Serie A, with the new arrivals expected to feature prominently.
The medical scheduled for August 13 marks the final step before Terzic’s formal introduction. Romano’s transfer fee of €8 million underscores the financial commitment behind the midfielder’s recruitment.
Grillitsch’s arrival without a transfer fee highlights Frosinone’s shrewd use of the summer window. The club’s takeover by an American ownership group adds a transatlantic dimension to its ambitions.
With the squad now bolstered, attention turns to pre-season preparations and the challenges of Serie A. The Canarini will look to translate their Serie B success into survival in Italy’s top flight.
