From Twente roots to Italian top: Oosterwolde’s loan move

Jayden Oosterwolde, the 25‑year‑old Nederlander, is set to join AS Roma on a loan from Fenerbahçe, a deal reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The move places the multifunctional defender in the Italian capital, bringing him one step closer to the Italiaanse top.

Loan deal with €18 million purchase option

Trainer Gian-Piero Gasperini in Rome has been searching for a versatile back‑line option, and Oosterwolde quickly entered his radar. According to (Volgens) Romano, both clubs have reached an agreement that includes a loan with an option to buy for eighteen million euros, which could become mandatory if certain conditions are met.

The paperwork remains the final hurdle; Roma and Fenerbahçe must still complete the necessary documents before the transfer can be officially confirmed. Once the formalities are settled, the Dutch defender will report to the Stadio Olimpico to begin his stint in Serie A.

Oosterwolde’s journey began in the youth academy of FC Twente, where he amassed up to 41 first‑team appearances. After a spell at Italian side Parma, he moved to Fenerbahçe at the start of 2023, adding 112 duels to his record before the Roman opportunity arose.

This contrast between a steady rise through Dutch and Turkish football and a sudden leap to the Italian elite highlights Gasperini’s ambition to reshape his defensive unit. The loan, coupled with a sizable purchase clause, signals that Roma view Oosterwolde not merely as a temporary fix but as a potential long‑term asset for the De project.
