From scandal to Lamborghini: Raheem Sterling pleads guilty
Published today, the English footballer Raheem Sterling, 31 and clubless, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide and refusing a test, after Raheem Sterling's Lamborghini crashed into a barrier on a highway in southern England at the end of May.
Details of the incident
The incident involved no other vehicle and caused no injuries. Police arrested him on the spot, detained him and then released him on bail before he appeared before the Basingstoke court, about 80 km southwest of London.
At the time of the arrest, officers found six cartridges of nitrous oxide, known as laughing gas, which Sterling admitted he intended to inhale illegally. He also confirmed his refusal to provide a sample for testing.
The striker has 82 caps for England, the last in 2022, and has played for Liverpool, Manchester City – with whom he won the English league title four times (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022) – then Chelsea. After an unsuccessful loan at Arsenal and a short spell at Feyenoord Rotterdam, he has been without a club since the end of last season.
The court has not yet handed down a sentence; the decision will be delivered at a later date.
