From Right to Dream to EPL debut: Caleb Yirenkyi's record rise

Joshua Larbi Yirenkyi is still grappling with the reality of his son Caleb Yirenkyi’s rapid ascent after the 20‑year‑old made his English Premier League (EPL) debut last Friday, stepping onto the pitch for Coventry against Arsenal and arriving on a transfer fee of around 30 million Euros.

The debut came in Coventry’s top‑flight clash with Arsenal.The 20‑year‑old was named in the starting lineup and featured for the newly‑promoted side on Friday.Yirenkyi’s appearance marked a milestone for the Ghanaian forward.

Yirenkyi’s journey began at the Right to Dream Academy, where he honed his skills as a teenager. The academy, renowned for developing African talent, provided the foundation for his professional career.

His move to Coventry shattered the Danish football transfer record, with the club paying roughly 30 million Euros.Within the transaction, the fee set a new benchmark for players moving from the Danish league.

Within eight months, Yirenkyi scored his maiden Black Stars goal, earned a place at the World Cup and found the net on the global stage. These achievements underscore the speed of his rise.

“I am really surprised by how far Caleb has come. I never imagined that he would go this far from starting from scratch, to FC Nordsjlland, then to the Black Stars, and now to the English Premier League,” he told Akoma FM.

He added, “Because of his success, I am also enjoying some recognition and accolades. Everywhere I go, people identify me as Caleb Yirenkyi’s father.”

Yirenkyi will now turn his attention to Coventry’s next fixture, a EFL Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday. The upcoming match offers him another chance to prove his worth in English football.
