From Pisa’s drop to Berlin’s rise: Aebischer joins Union

Michel Aebischer has signed for Union Berlin, moving from Pisa after the club’s recent Abstieg. The 29‑year‑old Swiss midfielder leaves Serie A to join the Bundesliga, ending a four‑Jahren spell in Italy. The transfer was announced by the Anadolu Agency on Wednesday.

From Pisa to Berlin

Aebischer stood zuletzt bei Pisa unter Vertrag, where he had to digest the Abstieg to Serie B. His season with the club ended in relegation, prompting the move to Germany. The Wechsel to Union Berlin follows a challenging campaign in Italy.

Prior to Pisa, he spent drei Jahre at Bologna, competing in Serie A. During that period he accumulated valuable experience against top‑flight opposition. After four years in the Italian top division, he is now ready for a new challenge in the Bundesliga.

The 44‑fache Nationalspieler brings extensive international experience. At 29, the Mittelfeldspieler adds depth and versatility to Union’s midfield options.

At Union Berlin, he joins Landsmann and Trainer Mauro Lustrinelli, the Thuner Meistercoach who has guided the side since the start of the Saison. The Swiss connection reinforces the club’s identity and tactical approach. Both share a background in the Swiss Super League, which should ease Aebischer’s adaptation.

«Union is a club with a clear identity and special values. In the talks with the officials I quickly sensed the importance of cohesion and team spirit here. After my stints in Switzerland and Italy I am now looking forward to the Bundesliga and to contributing my experience here», Aebischer said in the club’s statement.

Before his move to Italy, Aebischer played from 2016 to 2022 at YB in the Swiss Super League. His six‑year spell in Switzerland laid the foundation for his later success.

Union Berlin did not disclose the length of the Vertrag in its media release on Wednesday.
