From Liverpool to League One: Danny Ings chooses Wycombe Wanderers

Danny Ings, the 34‑year‑old former Liverpool and England striker, has signed a new contract with Wycombe Wanderers, a club currently sitting fourteenth in League One. The former international, who has scored 122 goals in 434 matches, can make his debut on Saturday against Reading.

Ings' Career: from Dorchester to Liverpool

Ings broke through at Dorchester Town and then spent a season in League One with Bournemouth. Via Burnley he arrived at Liverpool, where he played 25 matches. He was one of the last signings of Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2015.

After Liverpool he continued his career at Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham United, before moving to Sheffield United in the Championship. For England he has played three internationals and scored one goal in a friendly match against Wales in 2020.

In total Ings has scored 122 goals in 434 club matches, including two games for Sheffield United last season. These figures confirm his status as an experienced striker.

New start at Wycombe Wanderers

The 34‑year‑old Ings is now a free agent and has signed a contract with Wycombe Wanderers, the fourteenth club in League One. It will be his eighth club in a 17‑year professional career and he joins a manager‑less team under interim manager Tom Hounsell, who has held the role since September 8.

‘That means we know he is fit and sharp,’ said director of football affairs Tom Stockwell. Ings has already trained with the squad in recent days and is ready for his debut.

He can play his first match on Saturday at the home game against Reading in Adams Park. Wycombe, also known as the Chairboys, have not yet recorded a win this season and remain in fourteenth place.

At Wycombe he will work with the Dutch goalkeeper Mikki van Sas and former teammate Sam Vokes, who now works as a coach at the club. The arrival of the former Liverpool striker strengthens the club’s attack.
