Friedkin-Group reviews sale as fans are outraged over departures
The Friedkin Group is considering a sale less than two years after purchasing Everton. The Americans took over the club in December 2024 for over £400 million (about €472 million). Owner Dan Friedkin and the fans are now in focus.
In a statement the Friedkin Group emphasized that after focusing on stability, investment and the opening of the new stadium last year, the “right time” for the next chapter had arrived. It wants to consider interest only from parties it is convinced can advance the club. At the same time the group is reviewing new investment opportunities.
Sale perspective of the Friedkin Group
The 61‑year‑old Dan Friedkin, who also owns AS Roma and AS Cannes in addition to Everton, outlined a vision for a sustainable and successful future at the takeover. He leaves the day‑to‑day management to his son‑in‑law Rishi Majithia, who works closely with CEO Angus Kinnear. This keeps strategic control within the group.
Discontent of the Everton fans
Manager David Moyes said in September that he had neither met nor spoken with Friedkin since his return in January 2025. In the summer the fans reacted angrily when it became known that Everton had accepted a £40 million offer from Nottingham Forest for Harrison Armstrong. Although the deal was later withdrawn, the subsequent sale of Beto to AC Florenz upset the supporters, leaving only striker Thierno Barry as a notable forward.
Friedkin consider selling Everton outright after taking 94% of shares
Under the Friedkin Group, Everton reached 13th place in the Premier League twice and currently sits in seventh position. The squad value rose from €353.1 million in December 2024 to €436.8 million now – an increase of 23.7 percent. This financial development reflects the growing market‑value analysis.
