Free transfer sees Belgian striker Batshuayi head to Saudi side Abha
Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi, 32, has left Eintracht Frankfurt to sign for Saudi Pro League side Abha Club on a free transfer, swapping the German Bundesliga for a new chapter in Saudi Arabia. The move follows a season of limited impact in Germany, where he featured in 21 games and scored four goals.
Michy Batshuayi is a Belgian international who has earned 55 caps. He has scored 27 goals for the national team.
He is popularly known by the nicknames ‘Batsman’ and ‘Batman’. The media also refer to him as the Red Devil.
The transfer takes him from the German Bundesliga to the Saudi Pro League. It marks his first foray into Saudi football.
During his spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, Batshuayi made 21 appearances. He found the net four times for the German side.
He arrived in Germany on a free transfer from Turkish club Galatasaray. However, he was unable to establish himself in the Bundesliga.
Batshuayi began his career in the youth academy of Standard Liège. He later played the majority of his club matches for Anderlecht, known as the Rouches.
His senior career has also featured spells at Borussia Dortmund, Olympique Marseille, Chelsea, Valencia, Fenerbahçe, Crystal Palace, Besiktas and Galatasaray. These experiences have given him a broad European pedigree.
Abha Club earned promotion last season to Saudi Arabia’s top tier. Signing Batshuayi provides the newly promoted side with a seasoned striker to aid its ambitions.
