Free‑agent race: Inter and Juventus eye England defender John Stones

England defender John Stones, 32, will become a free agent on June 30 when his Manchester City contract expires. Inter Milan and Juventus have already opened talks with his agent, while Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal have also signalled interest.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Inter have been speaking directly with Stones’ representatives for several days. Juventus have likewise reached out to request further details, and both clubs have shown Genuine interest in the centre‑back.

The pursuit reflects a broader market trend of top clubs targeting free agents this summer. Italy, in particular, is emerging as a key destination for seasoned Premier League stars, making the Serie A clubs’ interest especially significant.

Stones will leave Manchester City after ten seasons at the Etihad, during which he collected six Premier League titles. He also lifted the 2022‑23 Champions League trophy with the club.

On 25 May 2026, he was photographed bringing out the 2018/2019 Premier League trophy at the After Party Celebration in the Co‑op Live Arena in Manchester, ENGLAND. The image underscored his status as a decorated England international.

Surveys in the Premier League indicate that Chelsea and Arsenal continue to monitor the defender closely. Their ongoing interest adds further competition for the Italian clubs.

For Stones, a free transfer opens the possibility of a new chapter in Serie A after his long spell in England. For Inter and Juventus, securing him would add experience and quality to their defensive lines.
