Free agent Akpoguma heads to Frosinone for Serie A medical
Nigeria international defender Kevin Akpoguma will be in Italy on Wednesday for a medical with Serie A newcomers Frosinone, aiming to sign as a free agent after his contract with TSG Hoffenheim expired and join the Italian side for the upcoming season.
Sky Sport Italia confirmed the flight is booked and the versatile defender should put pen to paper with the newly‑promoted Serie A side tomorrow. Able to operate as a central defender, right‑back or left‑back, his flexibility makes him a valuable asset for any squad.
The 31‑year‑old German‑born player amassed 179 Bundesliga appearances for TSG Hoffenheim, scoring three goals and providing five assists, with loan spells at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96. He switched his international allegiance to Nigeria in October 2020 after representing Germany at youth level.
A February 8, 2026 Bundesliga clash in MUNICH, GERMANY, saw Akpoguma receive a red card while representing TSG Hoffenheim, underscoring his experience in top‑flight football.
Joining Frosinone offers Akpoguma regular Serie A minutes, which he hopes will revive his chances of a Nigeria recall ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. For the newly‑promoted club, his experience and positional versatility bolster a defence that will face a steep learning curve in Italy's top tier.
