Frankfurt's €9m gamble on Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika

Eintracht Frankfurt are close to signing 25‑year‑old Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge for about €9 million, ending his three‑season spell at the Belgian side if the deal is sealed.

According to the German medium, negotiations are in the final phase and the fee reflects the fact that Onyedika’s contract runs until 2027. The relatively low transfer sum is therefore linked to the expiry date of his deal with Club Brugge.

Club Brugge bought the Nigerian midfielder in August 2022 for €9.5 million from Danish side FC Midtjylland. Since then he has become a regular, arguably the most valuable player in the midfield, making 183 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing six assists.

During his time at Club Brugge he helped the team win two Belgian league titles, one Belgian Cup and one Belgian Supercup. Transfermarkt lists his current market value at €23 million, highlighting the gap between his valuation and the proposed fee.

Eintracht Frankfurt see Onyedika as a reinforcement for their defensive midfield. The German side believes his experience and physical profile will add balance to a squad that is looking to strengthen its central areas.

With the move, Frankfurt would acquire a player who combines defensive solidity with the ability to contribute offensively, while Club Brugge would lose a key figure after three seasons. The transfer would also free up a substantial wage bill and allow Brugge to plan for a replacement ahead of the next campaign.

If the agreement is finalised, Onyedika will join the Bundesliga, marking a new chapter for the Nigerian international and a notable addition for Frankfurt’s midfield options.
