Frankfurt eye left‑back Youri Baas but prioritize Rennes’ Brassier

In the bustling Frankfurt training ground, scouts circle a portrait of Youri Baas, the 23‑year‑old Ajax left‑back now on the club’s radar. The German side, known as the Adler (Eagles), are hunting a left‑sided defender, and Baas has emerged as one of the names under consideration.

Frankfurt’s defensive recruitment

Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed they are actively searching for a left‑back, with the Dutch defender Youri Baas listed among the candidates. Club officials, however, admit Baas does not sit at the top of their wish list.

According to the Duitse (German) Fussballtransfers, the Naam (name) of the ideal recruit is Lilian Brassier of Stade Rennes. The 26‑year‑old Frenchman is reported to command a fee of about €20 million. Die (the) Eagles see his profile as a perfect fit for the left‑side defence.

Volgens the club’s scouting report, several alternatives are on the list. The De (the) shortlist includes Baas and 21‑year‑old Nathan Zeze. Zeze, a French midfielder, has been with Saudi side NEOM since 2025 and could depart for a suitable offer. Earlier this summer Frankfurt were linked with Ajax‑back Anton Gaaei, but a bid for the Danish defender was rejected and the transfer collapsed.

Ajax’s stance on Baas

Last season Baas, an Ajacied (Ajax player), was voted Ajax Player of the Year by the club’s supporters in Amsterdam. The accolade highlighted his importance to the Dutch side before recent changes.

Since the return of Daley Blind, a trusted colleague of head coach Míchel Sánchez, Baas has found himself on the bench more often than he prefers. He recently voiced his frustration over the reduced playing time. The situation has fueled speculation about his future.

reported on Monday that Ajax are prepared to facilitate a transfer for the 23‑year‑old left‑back. Technical director Jordi Cruijff believes any departure could be offset by signing defender Dies Janse. The club’s willingness suggests a possible exit before the next season.
