France eliminated, Zidane takes over after Deschamps

After fourteen years at the helm of the French national team, Didier Deschamps announced, at the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, that he would hand over his position to Zinedine Zidane, nicknamed Zizou, thus marking the departure of the historic and final manager.

Zidane, former number 10 of the French, took with him a completely refreshed staff. He thus announced the establishment of an entirely new coaching team for the next generation.

Former staff approaches Zizou

L’Equipe revealed that former members of “DD”’s staff have contacted Zizou to offer their services. No names were disclosed, but the approach shows a desire to remain involved in the Federation.

The future manager did not respond positively, stating he wants to surround himself with close associates and carefully selected new faces. The former Real Madrid coach thus preferred to stay loyal to his inner circle.

Fabien Barthez took over the goalkeeper‑coach role, while Franck Raviot might have hoped to continue the adventure. The 53‑year‑old goalkeeper‑coach served for sixteen years with the French national team.

Raviot assumed the position under Laurent Blanc’s tenure in 2010, before being replaced recently. His experience includes the development of Hugo Lloris and Mike Maignan.

According to Ouest‑France, he joined the National Technical Directorate of the FFF, a role he knows well. He had joined the DTN in 2000 at the request of former manager Aimé Jacquet.

Back at the DTN, he will once again train young goalkeepers as well as coaches. This mission continues his commitment in the service of the French.
