Four months after Liverpool: Slot becomes UEFA observer for Champions
Four months after his dismissal from Liverpool, the Bergentheim coach Arne Slot returns to the football world, this time as a technical observer for UEFA, and is tasked with monitoring, analysing and evaluating matches from a coaching perspective.
Slot is part of the UEFA Technical Observers group that will follow the 2026/2027 Champions League season. UEFA describes the role as monitoring, analysing and evaluating matches from a professional coaching perspective. His appointment follows an intensive period at Liverpool.
The announcement appeared on Friday afternoon on the official UEFA website, with the organization emphasizing that Slot became known for the Conference League final with Feyenoord and the national championship and cup victory.

Composition of the observers group
The observers group comprises a total of 36 professionals. Among the members are Thomas Frank, Gareth Southgate and Ange Postecoglou. Also three other Dutch – Erik ten Hag, Frank de Boer and Frans Hoek – belong to the observers.
Slot led Liverpool, after a difficult season, to qualification for the Champions League, but that was not enough to retain his contract. In May he was dismissed, after which the role of head coach of the Dutch national team was briefly considered. Slot decided not to take that step (for now).
