Four‑month setback for Monza captain Matteo Pessina after knee surgery

Monza captain Matteo Pessina faces a stark contrast: after a delicate operation on a serious knee injury, he is projected to miss at least four months, while just weeks earlier he was a key figure in Monza’s Serie A campaign.

Surgery details and recovery timeline

The injury occurred during pre‑season training, prompting immediate comments from coach Ivan Juric that it was a major setback. The midfielder’s messages highlighted the seriousness of the situation.

A statement confirmed that Pessina underwent surgery to repair a dislocation of the patellar tendon in his left knee, effectively a dislocated kneecap. The operation was performed at the J|Medical centre in Turin, located within the Juventus training complex at Continassa.

He will begin the rehabilitation process with Monza, and initial reports suggest he could be out of action for at least four months. The club’s medical staff will oversee his progress as he works back to full fitness.

The 29‑year‑old Italy international returned to his hometown club Monza in 2022 and helped secure promotion back to Serie A. He contributed five goals and one assist in 33 Serie B appearances last term and also featured in the promotion play‑offs.
