Former England striker Raheem Sterling charged after Lamborghini crash

Former England forward Raheem Sterling, 31, has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide after a single‑vehicle crash involving a Lamborghini on the M3 southbound near the Minley interchange on 28 May, in Hampshire, investigated by the Isle of Wight Constabulary.

He is accused of dangerous driving. He also faces a charge of possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation. Additionally, he is alleged to have failed to provide a specimen.

The incident was a single‑vehicle collision on the M3 southbound near the Minley interchange on 28 May. Police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

Sterling, who is 31, is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court for a hearing on 15 September. The court appearance will address the charges laid by the Isle of Wight Constabulary.

Sterling's career and current status

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Sterling moved to Manchester City in 2015, later winning four Premier League titles, five League Cups and the FA Cup in 2019. He began his football education at the QPR academy and made his senior debut for Liverpool.

For England, he scored 20 goals in 82 appearances, helping the side reach the 2018 World Cup semi‑finals and the Euro 2020 final. His international record was built under manager Gareth Southgate.

After leaving Chelsea in 2022, Sterling spent the 2024‑25 season on loan at Arsenal before joining Dutch club Feyenoord on a short‑term deal until the end of the season. He departed Stamford Bridge earlier and is now without a club.

Sterling hails from Berkshire. He remains unattached following the conclusion of his Feyenoord contract.
