Former Bayern backer Albert Martens says Kompany will stay

Albert Martens, the FC Bayern Ehemaliger Förderer, insists that Vincent Kompany will remain at FC Bayern München for the foreseeable Zeit, dismissing any rumours of a swift departure. The Belgian former defender turned manager, now 40, has guided the German Rekordmeister back to the summit and shows no sign of leaving.

Martens' confidence in Kompany

Martens told Bayern‑Magazin 51 that he does not believe Kompany will move simply for a higher salary. “Vincent is not the type who changes clubs just because he could earn double elsewhere. He is loyal,” he said.

He added that Kompany is “exactly at the right place” where he can develop further and win titles, a sentiment he believes the Belgian fully recognises.

Kompany's record at the German record champion

Since taking over in summer 2024, the 40‑year‑old succeeded the title‑less Thomas Tuchel and has already secured two German championships and one DFB‑Pokal in his two seasons.

Bayern’s Champions League campaigns under Kompany regularly place the club among the title contenders, reinforcing the club’s status as the German Rekordmeister.

Club president Herbert Hainer recently called Kompany “a lucky strike for us, like a six in the lottery”, while board chief Jan‑Christian Dreesen praised his “extraordinary” work, adding “it’s really fun”.

Martens recalled his early conviction that Kompany would become a top coach, describing him as intelligent, honest and a good people‑manager, a “winner type”.

He likened coaching to player development, noting that while good players can be trained, top players are born, and the same applies to managers.

Kompany’s Bayern tenure is his third managerial post after spells at RSC Anderlecht and FC Burnley, the latter culminating in promotion to the Premier League. His contract runs until 2029, following an extension signed in October 2025.

Martens concluded that, in his view, no change is expected in the near Zeit, signalling stability for the club’s future.
