Forest secure teenage Irish striker Noonan as free signing
Nottingham Forest have secured the signature of 18‑year‑old Irish striker Michael Noonan from Shamrock Rovers on a free transfer, with a medical scheduled for Wednesday and a January arrival confirmed. The move follows the teenager turning 18 earlier this summer and adds a youthful option to Forest’s attacking roster.
Transfer terms and compensation
Noonan will join the Premier League club on a free transfer, meaning Shamrock Rovers are only set to receive basic training compensation in the low six figures. Earlier negotiations had hoped for a fee in the region of €750,000. The forward previously turned down a move to Ajax and rejected a €1.8 million offer from Hoffenheim in February.
Regulatory scrutiny and past links
Rovers later self‑reported a potential breach of third‑party ownership rules concerning Noonan’s contract, alongside goalkeeper Alex Noonan’s loan to Ipswich Town. The FAI opened an investigation, with former club CEO John Martin confirming his agreements were made in the club’s best interest. Agent David Moss stated he complied with all legal and regulatory requirements and acted in the player’s interest.
