Forest's €23 million gamble on Read tests Feyenoord's resolve

Nottingham Forest have tabled a third offer of almost €23 million for 20‑year‑old right‑back Givairo Read, coupling the bid with a five‑year contract that would keep the player at the Premier League club until mid‑2031. The English side previously tried twice, first with €20 million, but Feyenoord have rejected all offers, insisting on a higher price.

Nottingham Forest, the Premier League‑club, have been actively pursuing Read over the past weeks, signalling a clear intent to add the Dutch right‑back to their ranks. His performances have attracted attention for their defensive solidity and attacking support.

The Engelsen made two prior attempts to pry the talent from De Kuip, both of which fell short. Both attempts were aimed at extracting him from the historic Rotterdam stadium, De Kuip.

On the day Read captained his side in a friendly against Rayo Vallecano, Forest prepared a fresh bid. Forest’s persistence underscores their ambition to reinforce the back line.

The club is prepared to commit almost €23 million, a sum that surpasses the earlier €20 million offer that was turned down. The €23 million figure reflects the market valuation for a promising young defender.

Feyenoord have signalled they will not accept a third right‑back bid after rejecting previous offers, insisting on a considerably higher fee. The Dutch club’s stance suggests they value the player higher than the English side is prepared to pay.

Read is currently under contract with Feyenoord until mid‑2029, limiting the window for negotiations. This contract timeline leaves only two years before the current deal expires.

Nevertheless, the Dutch wing‑back, who arrived from FC Volendam three years ago, is eager to join the Premier League, and Forest have a contract ready until mid‑2031. A five‑year deal would see him remain at the English club until the summer of 2031.

The report by Joost Blaauwhof and Martijn KrabbendamNottingham confirms the details. Their analysis highlights the strategic importance of securing a long‑term asset.
