Foden sent off after striking Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford

Incident in the 23rd minute
According to Imma Mentruit's report for International Football, the blow occurred under the direction of Enzo Maresca, Manchester City manager, at the twenty‑three minute mark of the match. The incident was described as a “Blow” that altered the course of the game.
The “citizen” side were left with ten players against their eternal city rival after Foden’s dismissal. Manchester City had to reorganise their defence without the winger who had been sent off.
During the first half, in a tussle for the ball with Bruno Fernandes, Phil Foden went to ground. While on the turf he felt a contact from the Portuguese midfielder on his side and reacted violently.
From the ground, Foden delivered a kick that struck Bruno Fernandes’ testicular area, leaving the United midfielder visibly affected. The gesture was classified as a serious assault by those present.
Michael Oliver, the main referee, did not request a VAR review and showed a straight red card to Foden. The decision was made without delay, leaving Manchester City with a numerical disadvantage for the remainder of the match.
