Flick drops Gavi to the bottom of Barça's hierarchy after Rodri

Under the lights of the Camp Nou, midfielder Gavi watches from the bench as the new captain of La Roja, Rodri, has already amassed 288 minutes of play, relegating the Masia prodigy to the bottom of the Barça hierarchy.

Rodri's impact on Gavi

This summer, FC Barcelona strengthened its midfield by signing Rodri, who came from Manchester City. His arrival integrated him into the ranks of the Blaugranas and immediately altered the group's dynamics.

Since his arrival at the Camp Nou, Rodri has logged 288 minutes across all competitions. By comparison, Gavi has only totaled 47 minutes in the same period.

The absence of Frenkie De Jong, injured since the start of the season, has not altered coach Hansi Flick's choices. He has often favored the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner, Rodri, or even Marc Bernal, to the detriment of Gavi.

Gavi, a product of the Masia, has only one start, in the match against Elche (5-0) in La Liga on August 23. That appearance was followed by an injury that limited his playing time.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Flick reminded of the importance of every player, including the Barcelona number 6. “Every player is important to us…,” said the German coach.

He emphasized that Gavi is ambitious and must accept the management of his playing time, while maintaining a positive mindset. According to Flick, the season remains uncertain, but rotation is essential.
