Fireworks halt Feyenoord‑Cambuur clash as referee intervenes
In the bright afternoon at the Kooi Stadion in Friesland, a cascade of fireworks erupted from the Feyenoord stand, turning what should have been a routine match into chaos as Feyenoord faced SC Cambuur. Fans on both sides watched anxiously as the referee prepared to intervene.
Fireworks disrupt the match
Referee Danny Makkelie (Scheidsrechter) was forced to suspend play after large quantities of fireworks were set off in the Feyenoord-uitvak. The explosion also struck Cambuur-fans seated on the home terraces. The interruption came just twelve minutes into the game at the Kooi Stadion, lasting roughly ten minutes before action resumed. The referee consulted with officials before ordering a ten‑minute suspension of play.
Early goal after the pause
When play restarted, Gjivai Zechiël capitalised quickly, sliding the ball into an empty net after a pass from Thijs Jansen. The goal lifted the spirits of the Feyenoord-supporters, who had endured the earlier disruption. The quick strike left Cambuur scrambling to reorganise their defence.
Second‑half fireworks and scoring
Gaoussou Diarra proved a handful for the Cambuur defenders, finding Luciano Valente and forcing the Cambuur captain to score calmly. Shortly before the break, Janse inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, and Ayase Ueda added a strike from eleven metres. A penalty awarded after a foul on Diarra was calmly converted, further extending Feyenoord's lead before the break. Coach Johan Plat responded at halftime, making two substitutions, while Giovanni van Bronckhorst left his formation untouched.
In the second half, Rafik El Arguioui celebrated his first Eredivisie goal at the Kooi Stadion and doubled his tally in the eightieth minute. Javi López made his debut for Feyenoord, providing a lively presence on the flank. Van Bronckhorst's decision to retain his starting eleven reflected confidence in the squad's momentum.
Zechiël added a second goal later in the hour, completing his brace and securing the decisive fifth for Feyenoord. The match ended without further incident, and both teams left the field without injuries.
The victory keeps Feyenoord in the chase of PSV and maintains a two‑point deficit to league leaders AZ. De result also highlights the club's ability to maintain focus despite external disturbances.
