Fiorentina’s €30m pursuit of Parma striker Mateo Pellegrino gathers pace
Fiorentina have moved swiftly into the frame for Mateo Pellegrino, the €30m-rated centre-forward whose future at Parma is shifting after his first league goal of the season on May 24 at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
The Argentine striker’s availability follows Juventus’ sudden withdrawal from the chase. The Old Lady had been the most likely destination for Pellegrino this summer, but their recent signings—Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain and Kerim Alajbegovic from Bayer Leverkusen—have left little room in the squad or the budget. Unless Jonathan David can be moved on, Juventus are no longer in a position to make a move.
Fiorentina, meanwhile, have seized the moment. Reports indicate negotiations are progressing rapidly, with the Viola keen to secure Pellegrino’s services before the summer transfer window closes. The club’s interest is not just about filling a gap; it is about finding a direct replacement for Roberto Piccoli at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, who is himself being eyed by Bologna if they can offload Thijs Dallinga.
Parma, however, have already taken steps to replace Pellegrino. The club announced the arrival of El Bilal Touré from Atalanta on a loan deal with an option to buy for a total of €11.5m. The Gialloblu have moved quickly to ensure they do not lose two strikers in one transfer window.
Crystal Palace have also been monitoring Pellegrino’s situation closely. The Premier League side are among the clubs keeping a close eye on the Argentine’s availability, though no concrete bid has yet been tabled. The asking price remains set at €30m, a figure that has not wavered despite the changing dynamics.
Pellegrino’s own season has been marked by consistent performances in Serie A. His goal against Hellas Verona in November highlighted his ability to deliver in key moments, a trait Fiorentina clearly value as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
The timing of this transfer saga is critical. With the summer window still open, clubs are racing to finalize their squads before the deadline. Fiorentina’s push for Pellegrino could yet force other clubs to act, particularly if Bologna secure Dallinga’s departure.
For Parma, the loss of Pellegrino is a setback, but not an insurmountable one. The arrival of Touré provides a ready-made replacement, while the €30m fee could provide financial flexibility for further recruitment.
Fiorentina’s interest, however, hinges on more than just Pellegrino’s availability. The club’s need to replace Piccoli—who remains a target for Bologna—adds urgency to the pursuit. If the Viola can finalize the deal, they will have secured a striker who fits their profile and timeline.
