Fiorentina fires Grosso after three defeats, sending him to Serie A

Fabio Grosso, 48, head coach of ACF Fiorentina, was sacked on Monday after three consecutive defeats, marking the first dismissal of a coach in Serie A this season, while the first sacking in the Jupiler Pro League is still pending.

The Viola's three setbacks include a 4-0 loss to AS Rome, another 0-3 home defeat to newly promoted Frosinone, and then a 1-2 loss to Torino, which sealed the coach's fate.

The club officially confirmed the decision, noting that Grosso had arrived this summer after two seasons at Sassuolo. The former 2006 World Cup winner had previously managed Bari, Hellas Verona, Brescia, FC Sion, Olympique Lyonnais and Frosinone.

A costly start to the season

Fiorentina spent €150 million this summer on signings such as Christ Oulaï (Trabzonspor), Mateo Pelllegrino (Parma) and Arthur Atta (Udinese), while also taking Franco Mastantuono (Real Madrid), Alieu Njie (Torino) and Radu Dragusin (Tottenham) on loan.

After three matchdays, Fiorentina sit at the bottom of the table, level on points with Genoa and Venezia, but with an inferior goal difference.

The board has not yet appointed a successor, but the names being mentioned include Igor Tudor, Raffaele Palladino and Thiago Motta.
