Financial snag cleared as Inter and Lazio revive Frattesi move
Inter and Lazio have confirmed that the transfer of central midfielder Davide Frattesi is back on after a Friday‑morning bureaucratic snag threatened to stall the move. The clubs acted quickly to resolve the issue and keep the deal alive.
Frattesi was set to travel to Rome for a medical with Lazio on Friday, ahead of a €15 million transfer that would leave the Nerazzurri with a 50 % sell‑on clause, effectively valuing the midfielder at €30 million. The medical would have been the final step before finalising the agreement.
Financial restructuring of the Frattesi deal
Multiple Italian news outlets reported that an issue relating to Lazio’s finances emerged, linked to the club’s position on the FIGC liquidity index and its ‘net‑zero’ requirement for summer transfers. This financial concern forced both sides to revisit the original terms.
Initially, the plan involved a season‑long loan costing €1 million with a conditional obligation to buy for an additional €14 million, while the Nerazzurri retained a 50 % sell‑on clause. Those conditions reflected the original structure agreed between the clubs.
Under the revised formula, Lazio will now pay a larger loan fee, reported at €5 million, and the arrangement has shifted to an option to buy rather than an obligation. Should Lazio decide to make the move permanent, Inter will still benefit from the 50 % sell‑on clause.
The path appears cleared, and Frattesi is still expected to travel to Rome on Friday to complete his medical at the St. If all goes to plan, the midfielder will join Lazio under the new terms.
