FIFA sacks Chief Operating Officer Lamour after Infantino criticism
Two weeks after Kevin Lamour’s sharp criticism of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the world governing body terminated his office as Chief Operating Officer on 17 August 2026, a decision announced on Monday evening following a SID request that cited a New York Times report. FIFA thanked Lamour for his two years of service and wished him good luck.
The FIFA statement confirmed that cooperation with Kevin Lamour ended on that date, not extended, and described the termination as a mutual decision, noting his contributions during his two‑year tenure.
Lamour’s open letter
Lamour had previously written an open letter denouncing Infantino’s plan to sell World Cup and other tournament shares to investors, accusing the president of misleading staff and warning that his criticism could cost him his job.

Following a massive outcry across football, Infantino abandoned the investor proposal and is now gathering backing from FIFA presidents ahead of the March presidential election.
