Feyenoord wants record fee for Read, Rigaux seeks Brazilian defender

Feyenoord will have to invest heavily in the transfer market over the coming months because the 20‑year‑old right‑back Givairo Read is fully fit and is already attracting interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. Technical director Dévy Rigaux wants to achieve a record fee for the young defender.

Record price and English rumours

From England comes the rumor that a blockbuster transfer is imminent; Graeme Bailey reported earlier this week that Read may move to the Premier League in the winter. Rigaux has set a minimum asking price of €33 million, one million more than the record sales of Santiago Giménez (Milan) and Mats Wieffer (Brighton & Hove Albion).

New Brazilian target

According to the Brazilian newspaper Globo, Rigaux is now directing his scouts toward a left‑back from Vasco Da Gama. It concerns the 16‑year‑old youth international Erik Leite, who will turn 17 in a month and can then sign a professional contract. Leite has so far played under‑17, this season moved up to the under‑20 team and recently scored for Brazil under‑17.

With a “bulging wallet”, Rigaux must then travel to Brazil to finalize the deal, while at the same time hoping to cash in heavily on Read.
