Feyenoord’s bold loan of Spanish left‑back Javi López with buy‑option
Feyenoord have secured the services of 24‑year‑old Spanish left‑back Javi López on a loan that runs until the end of the current season, with the Dutch giants also negotiating an option to purchase the player outright.
The loan agreement sees López arrive from Real Sociedad, the La Liga side that signed him earlier in 2024. Feyenoord will retain the right to make the move permanent should the defender impress during his short‑term stay.
“It makes me proud to represent a big and ambitious club like Feyenoord,” López told the club on its website. “I can’t wait to join the group and be valuable for the club, my teammates and the supporters. I will give everything in this shirt to create beautiful moments and successes together.”
López’s career path
Born on the island of Tenerife, López made his La Liga debut at 18 with Deportivo Alavés before moving to Real Sociedad in 2024. The defender has amassed 105 top‑flight appearances and has represented Spain at youth level on five occasions.
From injury crisis to new hope: Javi López joins Feyenoord on loan
Before his Feyenoord move, López spent the previous season on loan at Real Oviedo, gaining further experience in Spain’s second tier. His extensive match record underlines the quality he brings to Rotterdam.
Feyenoord currently lack the services of injured left‑backs Jordan Bos and Gijs Smal, forcing centre‑back Mika Marmól to fill in on the flank in the last two matches. López’s arrival should restore balance to the Dutch side’s defensive line‑up.
