Feyenoord adds Spaans left‑back Javi López on season‑long loan
Feyenoord has bolstered its squad by bringing in the Spaans left‑back Javi López on a season‑long loan from Real Sociedad, with the player joining trainer Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s ranks immediately. The 24‑year‑old defender is expected to compete for the starting left‑back spot and add depth to the Dutch side’s defense.
Feyenoord has secured López on a loan for one season from his parent club Real Sociedad. The agreement includes an option to buy, with technical director Dávy Rigaux negotiating a predetermined transfer fee that could make the move permanent next summer.
Technical director and purchase clause
López, whose full name is Javier López Carballo, will wear the Feyenoord shirt for the duration of the loan, while the club retains the right to trigger the purchase clause before the loan expires. Rigaux confirmed that the option to purchase is tied to a set transfer sum, giving the Rotterdam side control over a possible permanent signing.
Career background and debut season
Born on the island of Tenerife, the defender began his career in his hometown of Orotava before moving to CD Tenerife and later Deportivo Alavés, where he amassed more than eighty competitive matches. He broke through at Alavés and, in mid‑2024, transferred to Real Sociedad.

In his debut season for Sociedad, López recorded thirty‑eight official appearances. The previous campaign saw the Basque club loan him to Real Oviedo, providing valuable playing time in Spain’s second tier.
Speaking on the club’s website, López said, “It makes me proud to represent a big and ambitious club like Feyenoord. I can’t wait to join the group and be of value to the club, my teammates and the supporters. I will give everything in this shirt to create beautiful moments and successes together.”
