Ferran Torres leads Paris Saint-Germain to victory in Le Classique against Marseille

Paris Saint-Germain turned the always charged match against Olympique Marseille into a victory, partly thanks to an early goal from Ferran Torres. The 113th edition of Le Classique started calmly, but ignited in the second half when Torres found the ball in the net within seven minutes of his substitute appearance.

Early impact of Torres

Torres, the Spanish World Cup hero, headed a cross from Désiré Doué and thereby marked his seventh goal in six matches for PSG. His strike set the tone and gave the Parisians a lead they would later maintain.

Marquinhos as match-winner

After the equaliser from Angel Gomes, who scored the leveller for Marseille, Marquinhos restored the lead by getting past Jeffrey de Lange. The Brazilian defender thus became the match-winner, while also providing the assist for Torres’ goal.

Tensions and absences

Marseille lost Igor Paixão after half an hour due to an injury, and later captain Timothy Weah was sent off with a second yellow card, leaving the Phocaeans with ten men. Mika Godts, the youngster from Ajax, eventually received a brief spell on the pitch, but PSG kept control. The Belgian from Ajax, still waiting for his first start, saw his rival Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who had not yet scored in Ligue 1, replaced within the hour.

The victory confirmed PSG’s position in the upper mid‑table of Ligue 1, while Marseille endure a disastrous season; in the first five fixtures only Le Havre earned fewer points. With this result Paris Saint-Germain remains a dangerous opponent in the French league.
