Fenerbahçe targets Ethan Mbappé to fill young quota
Fenerbahçe is interested in Ethan Mbappé, the 19‑year‑old brother of Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé, as a potential winter transfer. Advisors have approached the Turkish club from Istanbul, reports the outlet Fanatik, and the club is looking for a young player to ease the foreign quota.
Quota pressure forces clubs to look for young talent
The club may have only fourteen foreigners in the squad; when the quota is full, four players in the team must be born in or after 2003. Ethan, born on 29 December 2006, falls outside the current quota system and could therefore be one of the required young foreigners.
He currently plays as a right‑winger for French side Lille, where he has taken part in every match and missed the starting XI only once. His contract is expiring, making him an attractive short‑term option for Fenerbahçe.
If the transfer goes through, he could become a teammate of the Dutch players Nathan Aké and Jayden Oosterwolde. Additionally, Romelu Lukaku, Mason Greenwood and Marco Asensio are already under contract with the current number six of the Super Lig.
The winter transfer depends on the ability to restructure the foreign limit and on negotiations over his expiring contract. Should Fenerbahçe be able to circumvent the quota rules, Ethan Mbappé could provide a fresh impetus to the Turkish squad.
